Navigating Trauma
Expanding the narrative about your life experiences
You may have arrived here if you (or someone you care about)…
Are you a survivor of trauma, whether recently or a very long time ago. This could include:
Abuse, unwanted sexual experience (s), assault, rape, family distress/dysfunction, an accident, a tragic event, repeated experiences of being shamed or bullied, or ethnic/race-based traumatic stress
You may find that you distract, or numb when reminded of emotionally painful memories or experiencing emotional distress
You may avoid, distrust, or unknowingly (or knowingly) create distance in relationships. This could also take shape in your mind as a feeling or fear that some close connections are “too good to be true.”
You may find it difficult to allow yourself to feel joy, or celebrate important moments in your life
Your body may communicate any number of symptoms, including: unexplained headaches, muscle tightness, changes in how and what you eat, disrupted sleep patterns, brain fog, confusion
